A Sun drenched Trinity high school in Hulme was the setting as one or two well groomed Urmstonian’s took the opportunity to top up their winter tans. Bobby Dean had something in his eye as Go Off Greeny put The Society behind on 20 minutes. Bobby claimed “It moved!”. The Railwaymen nearly doubled their lead before half time when their striker grazed the post from six yards out.
Racey’s first 11 a side display in ten years was typically bullish (enthusiastic or angry?) and Gavin The unit Armitage was also putting his head in where it hurts. Riff Raff were restricted to a couple of long range pings from Mike the Hammer but overall the first half was one to forget. Scott Mitchell donated his leg for the cause: badly twisting a knee.
As The second half kicked off and the sun came down to eye level. The Riff Raffian’s turned up the heat. A crap shot was needlessly deflected out for a corner which Mike Burnett cheekily curled just under the bar straight into the onion bag: 1-1.
Minutes later Basher got his large shiny granite head onto another corner to put the undefeated ones ahead 2-1. Twoddle got in on the act soon after when he bummed Greeny aside at the front stick to turn the screw 3-1.
Adsy, Bash & Mike started bossing it. Playing in triangles with good support on either side from Scrappers & Sooty. Racey got bloody knee’s then bloody mad as he conceded a penalty for ‘manhandling’. Pedsie watched it in a turncoat Green nervously slotted home. Virgin 2- 3 Riff Raff.
Mr Pedz then wandered off up front, grazed a post and stuck out his chest ala Cantona!
The game was sealed by Mekon with a sublime low volley (finely assisted by a miss-kick by turncoat Green) from near half way as the Virgin keeper went walkabout. Fletch missed his chance to extend further by fluffing his big one on one. It mattered little as The Riff Raff Society remained unbeaten winning 4-2.
The management would like to take this opportunity to Welcome the Lymm Ex-Pats & Ads n Bash into the fold.
